Melanie Cossey

Hello all,

I am thrilled to announce that my painting "Thou Art as Wise as Thou Art Beautiful" won third place at the "Visions of Shakespeare" show at the Eileen Fong Gallery in Vancouver. I won two tickets to see Bard on the Beach. Here is a picture of myself and Artistic Director Christopher Gaze as he awards me my certificate and prize.

Helen at www.artsconnect.ca was very kind in writing a little blurb about my winning, and publishing it on her website. (quoted below)

Port Moody artist, Melanie Cossey's painting by the same name was selected by Christopher Gaze of Bard on the Beach as one of the winning entries in a recent competition. The Eileen Fong Gallery, Artists' Co-op partnered with the Bard on the Beach, and called for visual artists to submit artworks with the theme "Visions of  Shakespeare" being shown in its Tinsel Town location from until Sept 30, 2006.  The gallery encouraged  submissions based on the 2006 Bard on the Beach season's schedule. You can see the show at 88 W. Pender St., Vancouver, or visit www.coopgallery.com for more information.

Artworks for Anmore

Hello all,

I have been invited to take part in the Artworks for Anmore program taking place on Feburary 11 2006. I think this will be a great opportunity to test drive my paintings in the community. The piece I plan to donate is my recent work of Buntzen Lake. You will find the details of the event below. If you live in the area, I invite you to come on out and support our local schools. Government funding is not what it used to be and so the school system is reliant on outside sources to supplement their cirriculum. As an artist and parent of two inspiring artists, I think this is a wonderful way to raise funds in support of numeracy while raising the artistic consciousness. Please come out and support our schools and our artists.

"The school’s PAC is hosting the ArtWorks for Anmore art auction at the new Heritage Woods High School. The night will showcase the creative works of local artists and artisans, using a variety of medias. Funds for Anmore Elementary will be raised through a silent and live auction and ticket sales to the event.  There will be local wine tasting and live jazz music performed by Miles Black to round off the evening. In addition to works created by professionals, the live auction will include one piece of art created by our own students from each class.

The PAC would like to include your work in our auction. You can help us raise funds for our school by donating a piece of your art work. The success of this event depends upon the generous involvement of artists like you. We will showcase and promote your work to the community and every artist will be acknowledged and thanked during the silent and live auction."

January 10 2005

I received my Royalties cheque from the Anonymous Art Show I entered in Decemeber. Here's a quote from the accompanying letter.

"The exhibition brought over 750 visitors to the gallery in the period of December 1-18, 2005 with over 325 attending the Opening. The Anonymous Art Show had 150 participating artists that exhibited 302 paintings. The total number of paintings that were sold was 108 for a total amount of $10,800."

The painting I sold was "Cherry Chic" which can be seen under my "commissions/sold" section.

This was my first Gallery show and I was absolutely thrilled to have sold a work. I want to thank all my friends and family that came out to support me. You mean the world to me! It was your good vibes that helped make my dream a reality that night. Love you all!
